SNI -Loving the People You Teach

Loving the People You Teach
Principles and Teaching Methods
As those who love teaching can make a difference in their lives?

If you want to be a good influence for your students, you need not only to love teaching, you should love each student. By showing love for their students, they will be more open to learning from you and more aware of their eternal value.
Seek to understand students. In doing so, you will be better prepared to teach classes that meet their individual circumstances. Touch each person in your class, noting that "the worth of souls is great in the sight of God" (D & C 18:10).
Look for ways to help new members or the least active to feel welcome at their school. Invite them to attend his class and present them to other students. Invite them to participate in asking them questions that you know they will be able to respond, helping them to feel comfortable in class.

Scriptures to study

John 13:34, 3 Nephi 11:15, Moroni 7:42-48
Things you can do:
     * Pray for each student in your class.
     * Do everything in your power to meet the needs and interests of students.

     * Listen carefully to the students and express sincere appreciation for their participation.

And how Gibran said .....

"Music is the language of the spirits. Its melody is like a breeze that makes our bouncy chords tremble with love. When the fingers soft music playing at the door of our feelings, memories agree that long lay hidden in the depths of the Past."
A hug dear visitors!

Stephanie—
Well, you’re officially as popular as the Hunger Games! At least on B&N.com the last couple of days. It’s been so exciting to see the pre-orders come in
. I just got out of a meeting where we re-capped the publication plans and looked at the total pre-order numbers and to say that it’s all encouraging would be an understatement. I can’t believe we have less than a week to go before the OSD (and baby!!!) Hopefully, your readers will be as excited by all this momentum as we are and continue to buy the book and spread the word this week and next.
That should put us in a good position to hit the list! Fingers crossed.
You deserve it, Stephanie. I want this book to be a mega success because I genuinely believe it will touch so many people, but also because you’ve worked so hard. I’ve not written a book or had a baby, but I understand both of those to be very difficult tasks. Oh, but the sweet reward! Next week will be a big week on so many fronts. It’s been amazing to be on this ride with you and a joy and privilege to be your editor. As we reach the home stretch here, (and in case you go into labor any minute now!) I just wanted to take the opportunity to remind you of that.
You’ve inspired me, and the team here at Hyperion and we’re just at the beginning.
So much more to come. The kick off this weekend with your family and friends will be so wonderful. I only wish I could be there.

Ensign Tablet App Available, Liahona App Being Produced

The Church is producing a new tablet app for the Liahona and updating the app for the Ensign. Both apps will feature the October 2011, November 2011, and May 2012 issues of the magazines (the Book of Mormon issue and the addresses from the two most recent general conferences).

Article Highlights

  • Two new tablet apps—one for the Liahona and one for the Ensign—will become available this month.
  • The apps feature content from the October 2011, November 2011, and May 2012 magazines.
  • The app is designed for tablets on both the Android and Apple platforms.
  • The app includes a survey that invites feedback from users.
As part of an ongoing effort to share the prophetic word through a variety of channels, the Church is making available two prototype apps (one release and one update) that feature magazine content.
The LDS Liahona app is in production, while the LDS Ensign app is now available. Both apps are designed exclusively for tablets and will be available later this month.
Both apps feature the October 2011, November 2011, and May 2012 issues of the respective magazines—in other words, the Book of Mormon issue and the two most recent general conference issues.
LDS Liahona is a new release and will be available in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. LDS Ensign is an update and, like its namesake magazine, is offered in English only.
The apps offer a more interactive—even immersive—magazine experience; for instance, users can read the magazine while listening to an audio file of the same text. (In fact, in the October 2011 issue on the LDS Ensign app, the audio file associated with President Ezra Taft Benson’s “The Book of Mormon—Keystone of Our Religion” is a recording of President Benson delivering this talk in 1986.)
In some articles in that same issue, artwork associated with particular text is presented as a slideshow; in others, the artwork is shown in high resolution, allowing users to scroll across screens to examine it in detail. And Elder Jeffrey R. Holland’s article “A Testimony, a Covenant, and a Witness” links to a Mormon Message about the Book of Mormon that is also from Elder Holland.
The conference issues likewise have interactive features, including the ability to listen to or watch the speakers delivering their conference addresses.
Both apps are designed for use on either the Android or Apple platforms. (The Apple version will be placed inside the Newsstand, a feature previously not offered. The Android version will be a standalone app.) Both will become available this month through the Android Market and the Apple Store.
The apps include a user survey that invites feedback; that feedback will be considered as the Church Priesthood Department continues to develop tablet offerings. Users can find this function at the end of any magazine issue's table of contents.

Saints in Mexico Learn from Apostle’s Visit

Elder Bednar addresses members at a stake conference in Puebla, Mexico, on Sunday, April 15, 2012.
Mexico holds a special place in the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The first Mormon missionaries to visit Mexico in 1876 found a people ready to hear the gospel, and in 2004 Mexico became the first country outside the United States to reach a membership of 1,000,000 Latter-day Saints.
Visiting Puebla, Mexico City, and Monterrey in April 2012, Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles counseled members, leaders, and missionaries in various meetings.
In a priesthood leadership conference on April 14, Elder Bednar reminded leaders that the doctrines of the Church are true, simple, and unchanging. Teachings in the Church should always focus on the doctrine of Jesus Christ, he exhorted. Elder Bednar emphasized that leaders have received sacred keys and should minister to people, not simply administer programs.
Earlier in the day, instructing missionaries in the Mexico Puebla Mission, and later at a devotional with local young single adults in the evening, Elder Bednar highlighted the need for members to exercise their agency to act. “Acting in accordance with correct principles is an important component of faith,” he said. “Faith in Christ leads to righteous action, increasing our spiritual power and capacity to do good.”
On Monday, April 16, Elder Bednar visited students attending the Church-owned Benemérito de las Américas high school in Mexico City. More than 2,000 students attending Benemérito gathered to take part in an interactive question-and-answer session with Elder Bednar. Additional students from the nearby Academia Juárez participated via video broadcast.
In a priesthood leadership meeting in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Elder Bednar invited local leaders to share their concerns and ask questions in order to assist them in their leadership calling. He explained, “The Savior used questions as one of His primary teaching tools. If we strive to ask inspired and effective questions, as we ponder and pray, you and I can subsequently engage in a learning process that enables us to receive inspiration and find our own answers.”
On Sunday, April 22, Elder Bednar traveled to San Cristóbal, where he held a stake conference with the San Cristobal Stake and the Chojolhó Mexico District. Many of the members speak only Tzotzil, a Mayan language. During this meeting, Elder Bednar called on a young man and a young woman to bear their testimonies. He asked the young woman how she knew that she had a testimony. She responded that she simply knew in her heart that the gospel of Jesus Christ was true.
In his instruction, Elder Bednar encouraged the members to strengthen their testimonies not only that the gospel is true, that the Book of Mormon was translated by the power of God, and that Joseph Smith was the Lord’s instrument in restoring the gospel to the earth, but to become converted unto the Lord Jesus Christ. He explained, “Conversion is described in the scriptures as ‘putting off the natural man’ (Mosiah 3:19) and becoming a 'new creature in Christ'” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Elder Bednar expanded the vision of the members to understand that in this time—“the greatest season in the history of the Church”—the vision Daniel had about the stone being cut out of the mountain without hands rolling forth and filling the whole earth is being fulfilled (see Daniel 2:31–45; D&C 65:2).
After being instructed by an Apostle of the Lord, Puebla México Mayorazgo Stake president Ranulfo Cervantes Soler affirmed: “We have received revelation about how to conduct ourselves in our callings and also in our families, to make some important changes and become acquainted with new patterns or better patterns for teaching the members the doctrines and the principles that are going to ensure that they can reach the presence of our Heavenly Father.”
